For nearly two hundred years, it has stood brooding atop the wooded ridge, whispered about in hushed and fearful tones by the villagers of Blackbark Ridge. According to the records in the town hall, the house has only ever had three different residents throughout its sordid history and has been unoccupied for the past several decades, but everyone who lives under its shadow knows that the House on Blackbark Ridge has never been unoccupied and that it has had more residents than just those whose names appear on yellowed deeds. Many more. And many would tell you that those residents are still there.
As the start of a new birthday tradition I present the 45th Annual Blackbark Ridge Open Invitational, where teams will gather to compete for the coveted title Of Blood Bowl Champion, on a field set up atop the wooded ridge within a stone's throw of the ominous house.
But beware, for the ground you play on is tainted by the dire curse that hangs over the area, and the Beast is lurking somewhere.
This 3 round street bowl tournament will be coupled with another tabletop event during the day where players will be able to embark on a horrifying romp through a 3D set-up of the House on Blackbark Ridge.
This tournament will be held in the Orlando area, with the exact venue will be revealed in the next few weeks, along with more details on the non-blood bowl game that takes players through the house
This event is NAF approved. The full ruleset is below.
RULESET FOR THE HOUSE ON BLACKBARK RIDGE
Team creation for this event would be 700 pts and choice of two skill packages: 4 normal skills or 2 normals and a double. No player may have more than 2 skills, no skill may be used more than once. The Leader skill may not be taken.
The tournament is a street bowl event. All normal street bowl rules apply (though with different descriptions possibly) except for the sides of the pitch. There are no walls, and so no rules for balls bouncing off walls or players being pushed into them. Instead, being pushed off the pitch is part of one of the event’s two main mechanics (the other being the Beast of Blackbark Ridge)
While there are no walls surrounding the playing area, there is no crowd, (no corporeal one anyway) and so players pushed off are not beaten senseless, and thus, no automatic injury rolls are made. players pushed out simply go into the reserves, as do those who are knocked down or stunned. Knocked out and injured players go in the normal respective spots in the dugout.
A player who leaves the playing field has had an encounter with the House, and the House has selected that player to torment, which will have an increasing effect throughout the tournament as the player is slowly driven towards obsession and madness until he finally becomes a creature of the house. A note should be made on the roster of every player who goes off the pitch, and for the rest of the tournament that player has the Path or Corruption special rule.
Path of Corruption
The Path of Corruption consists of 3 stages, with the influence of the House on Blackbark Ridge having an increasing effect in each stage, represented by the addition of new skills to that player. These are cumulative, so at Stage 2, the player will have the new skills from Stage 1, in addition to the skills gained at Stage 2.
As soon as a player goes off the pitch for the first time in the tournament, he immediately becomes Stage 1 (even if injured). At the start of the next game (if there is one), he will be at Stage 2, and will be at Stage 3 at the start of the game following that (again, if there is one).
A player who goes off the pitch in the first game will be at Stage 3 in the final game, while one who goes off the pitch in the final game will never advance past Stage 1
Stage 1: False Sense of Security
The player is lulled into a false sense of security by the House, thinking “this isn’t so bad. I can deal with this place easy”
Player gains the Dauntless and Loner skills
Stage 2: Fascination
The player gains an unhealthy obsession with sharp objects and is prone to fits of rage
Player gains the Stab and Frenzy skills (which still can’t be used at the same time)
Stage 3: Maniacal Glee
The corruption of the player by the House is now complete, and he will soon be becoming a permanent resident, but will cause as much chaos for the House’s amusement before he or she meets their end.
The player gains Claws, Mighty Blow, No Hands, Frenzy, & Tackle and also gains the Creature of the House special skill
Creature of the House: The player must be activated if possible every turn (if not stunned and the turn doesn’t end in a TD or turnover. When activating the player, before declaring an action or rolling for Bonehead, etc, roll a single block die.
Pow - the player must block the closest player on the opposing team (player’s choice if more than one equal distance), moving as many spaces as possible (including GFI) in order to do so. Any such movement does not count as one of the player’s blitzes for the turn. If no available targets the player will stand there and froth at the mouth. (He will stand if knocked down)
Skull - must do the same thing except for the Target will be a player on his own team
Both down & Stagger - The player will froth at the mouth and wave his fists, raging and babbling incoherently for a turn. He retains tackle zones and will stand if he started the activation knocked down
Push. Player may be activated as normal. Blitz, block, move, and foul actions may be declared as normal. Bloodlust, bonehead, wild animal and very stupid are rolled at this point as normal
The Beast of Blackbark Ridge
The killer known as the Beast of Blackbark Ridge has stalked the local area for over a century, and now he stalks the Blood Bowl pitch looking for potential victims. Whenever double skulls are rolled by a player, before any rerolls are attempted. The Beast emerges from the shadows and strikes at the player on the OPPOSING team that is farthest from the ball. (Current player’s choice if more than one possible target) Make an armor roll against that player (The Beast is considered to have the Claws and Mighty Blow skills for the purposes of this attack) If the armor is not broken, the player has managed to evade the deadly sickle wielded by the Beast. If broken the weapon has hit home - the only question is whether the player received a glancing blow or a potentially fatal one. Make the injury roll, again using the bonus for Mighty Blow it it was not used to break the armor. After the attack, the Beast fades into the night from whence he came.
After the attack is resolved, the player has the opportunity to reroll the block dice if able or knock his player down as normal and suffer the turnover
If triple skulls should ever be rolled, the Beast strikes at two players on the opposing side. The player farthest from the ball and his nearest teammate. (Again current player’s choice if more than one model fits this description) |
